Poll: Smer Would Have Won Election in July Ahead of SaS and SNS

Bratislava, July 26 (TASR) – Had a general election been held in mid-July, the governing Smer-SD party would have been voted by 26.4 percent of people, which is equivalent to 44 legislators in Parliament, TASR learnt from a poll carried out by Focus agency, which released the results on Wednesday.

The survey, which was conducted on a sample of 1,025 respondents between July 13-24, further showed that the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party would have been the preferred choice of 14.2 percent of respondents (24 seats), while the Slovak National Party (SNS) came third on 10.3 percent of votes (17 seats).

Another five parties would have made it into Parliament – OLaNO-NOVA (9.2 percent/15 seats), the far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia/LSNS (9.1 percent/15 seats), We Are Family-Boris Kollar (8.2 percent/14 seats), the Christian Democratic Movement/KDH (6.3 percent/11 seats) and Most-Hid (6.2 percent/10 seats).

With support from 4 percent of voters, the ethnic-Hungarian SMK party would have stayed outside Parliament again.

According to the poll, 66.6 percent of the respondents would have gone to the polling stations. Around 19.2 percent of the respondents wouldn’t have voted, while 14.2 percent wouldn’t have known whom to vote for.
