Poll: Smer Would Have Won Election in June ahead of PS-Together and LSNS

Bratislava, June 12 (TASR) – Had a general election taken place in Slovakia in June, it would have been won by the current main governing party Smer-SD, albeit on less that 20 percent of the votes (i.e. on 19.7 percent), with Progressive Slovakia (PS)-Together coalition the runner-up on 17.8 percent and the far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) third on 12.5 percent, according to the results of a Focus agency poll published on Wednesday.


Fourth place in the June poll went to Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) on 8 percent, followed by the Christian Democrats (KDH) – 7.5 percent, We Are Family – 7.3 percent, the co-ruling Slovak National Party (SNS) – 7.2 percent and OLaNO – 6.7 percent.

The co-governing Most-Hid would have ended up below the 5-percent threshold needed to make it into Parliament, with 4.4 percent in the poll, while the Hungarian Community Party (SMK) was on 3.7 percent, the Christian Union on 1.4 percent and the Slovak Green Party on 1.3 percent.

Seats in Parliament would have been allocated as follows: Smer-SD – 34, PS-Together coalition – 31, LSNS – 22, SaS – 14, KDH and We Are Family – both 13, SNS – 12 and OLaNO – 11.

The agency also asked about the party of incumbent President Andrej Kiska that hasn’t been established yet. It would have been elected by 6.2 percent of the people polled. Support for other parties would have been slightly modified. It this case Smer-SD would have gained 19.5 percent, PS-Together coalition 15.3 percent, LSNS 12.3 percent, KDH 7.5 percent, SNS 7 percent, SaS 6.8 percent, We Are Family 6.6 percent and OLaNO 5.9 percent. Both Most-Hid (4.1 percent) and SMK (3.8 percent) wouldn’t have made it to Parliament either.

The poll was conducted on a sample of 1,017 respondents.
