Poll: Smer Would Have Won Election in November Ahead of SNS and SaS

Bratislava, December 1 (TASR) – Had a general election been held between November 23-29, the governing-coalition Smer-SD party would have won on 23.3 percent (with 40 seats in the 150-seat House), compared to its result of 28.3 percent in the general election on March 5, TASR learnt on Thursday.

The poll, which was carried out by Focus agency on a sample of 1,008 respondents, indicated that the Slovak National Party (SNS) would have come second on 13.7 percent (23 seats), followed by the Opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) on 13.6 percent (23 seats).

Another five parties would have made it into Parliament – the far-right Kotleba-People’s Party Our Slovakia (8.8 percent/15 seats), Ordinary People-NOVA (8.2 percent/14 seats), We Are Family-Boris Kollar (7.9 percent/13 seats), Most-Hid (6.8 percent/12 seats), and the Christian Democratic Movement/KDH (5.9 percent/10 seats).

The following parties would have failed to reach the 5 percent of votes required to win seats in Parliament: the Hungarian Community Party/SMK (4.4 percent), Siet/Network (1.2 percent), the Slovak Communist Party/KSS (1 percent), Chance (0.9 percent), the Slovak Green Party/SZS and SDKU-DS (each 0.8 percent), and SKOK (0.7 percent).

The survey results showed that voter turnout would have been 72.8 percent. Around 16.8 percent of the respondents wouldn’t have voted, while 10.4 percent wouldn’t have known whom to vote for.
