Premier: Government to Check Road Construction Every Three Months
Banska Bystrica (TASR) – Every three months up-to-date information on the state of the construction of motorways, expressways and first-class roads in Slovakia will from part of the Cabinet’s agenda at its regular sessions, stated Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) after meeting representatives of the Central Slovakia Initiative in Banska Bystrica on Wednesday.
The initiative, which involves mayors of central Slovak towns and cities, fights for the faster construction of motorways in the area.
After the meeting Pellegrini also said that a tender for project documentation concerning the Krupina bypass (Banska Bystrica) will be launched by the end of June.
The premier went on to say that the first Cabinet session on the state of roads in Slovakia will take place after the summer holidays. “Every third month I’ll keep an eye on whether we’re meeting the deadlines…,” he said, adding that the people concerned will have to accept responsibility if the deadlines aren’t met.
Pellegrini further said that temporary measures addressing the poor traffic situation in Ruzomberok and Dolny Kubin (both Zilina region) will be drawn up for the period until the new motorways near these towns are constructed.
According to Pellegrini, Slovakia should receive around €11-12 billion in the next programme period, of which a significant part should be used for infrastructure projects.
Banska Bystrica mayor Jan Nosko praised the fact that the prime minister has come up with a new way of communication. “We spoke very specifically – every mayor spoke about the problems in their particular town or city,” he said after the meeting.
