President Kiska Dismisses Judge Jurko for Corruption
Bratislava, August 9 (TASR) – Based on a proposal by the Judicial Council, President Andrej Kiska on Thursday stripped judge Milan Jurko from his judicial post over a corruption issue, TASR learnt from the President’s Office on the same day.
The Supreme Court in March found the former judge of the Trebisov district court guilty of accepting bribes and of misusing his powers as a public official. He was sentenced to six years in prison and had to pay a financial penalty worth €3,000.
According to a prosecutor, Jurko first accepted a hunting dagger worth 16,000 Czech crowns (€632) to approve a plea deal in a particular case. Later he accepted a non-specified reward in order to decide on a financial penalty instead of another type of punishment. Finally, in the third case the judge took a bribe worth €1,500 to give a more lenient punishment.
All three cases took place in 2013.
