Reznik: 2015 Was TASR's Most Successful Year for Six Years

Bratislava, May 10 (TASR) – The year 2015 was the most successful one for the News Agency of the Slovak Republic (TASR) for the past six years, according to figures included in a report on TASR’s activities in the second half of 2015 that was acknowledged by the members of the parliamentary culture and media committee at its session on Tuesday.

According to TASR general director Jaroslav Reznik, who delivered the report to the legislators, the news agency continued to fulfil its statutory tasks in 2H15 as a free and independent institution without favouring any political, economic, religious, ethnic or other group.

“The news service reflected current events in Slovakia and abroad in an objective and balanced way,” said Reznik.

TASR released 141,935 multimedia news items in the second half of 2015 and increased its revenues by 28.48 percent year-on-year. “TASR’s overall incomes in 2015 reached €7.2 million, while total expenditures stood at €7.1 million. So, TASR posted a surplus of €86,674 in 2015,” said Reznik.

According to Reznik, the fact that the news agency hasn’t lost any of its media clients over the past two-and-a-half years while acquiring new ones at the same time clearly shows the objectivity of its work.
“We’ve launched a number of new services for clients, moved to more convenient premises, modernised our fleet of vehicles, stabilised the editorial system and achieved a positive economic result,” said the TASR general director.

As for TASR’s priorities, Reznik wants to keep providing a news service of high quality. “We managed the parliamentary election [in March] very well. Currently, we’re providing a news service from the Ice Hockey World Championships, next we’ll bring the European Football Championships, after that the Summer Olympic Games and, as of July 1, we’ll provide a service regarding Slovakia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU,” said Reznik.
