Slovak Soldiers Emerge Best in Cyberspace Defence Exercise
Bratislava, April 27 (TASR) – At the international Locked Shields 2016 exercise focusing on cyberspace defence, the Slovak Armed Forces team came out on top, the Defence Ministry informed TASR on Wednesday.
The exercise, organised annually by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, was based on a scenario planned beforehand and concentrated on training security experts who protect national IT systems on a daily basis. Teams of experts had to turn aside thousands of attacks during the exercise. Specialists practised solving these incidents, their reporting, analysis as well as correct response to them.
“The fact that members of the Slovak Armed Forces were assessed as the best resisting team in this exercise proves that we pay a great deal of attention to operations in cyberspace. It’s a real success that we stood up to such strong international competition. This only confirms the good reputation of our soldiers abroad,” said Defence Minister Peter Gajdos (SNS nominee), who was number two in the Slovak Armed Forces before his appointment. He will award the successful soldiers on Thursday (April 28).
Over 550 professionals and a total of 26 nations were involved in this years’s Locked Shields 2016.
