SNS Demands Ouster of Csefalvayova, Calls Breach of Coalition Agreement
Bratislava, August 8 (TASR) – The Slovak National Party (SNS) demands an instant personnel change at the helm of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee, currently headed by Katarina Csefalvayova, who represents a fellow junior coalition party Most-Hid, as the committee’s Wednesday session was convened without prior consultation with the coalition partners.
According to SNS, this constitutes a breach of the coalition agreement.
By convening the committee as well as shepherding through a resolution on the annexation of Crimea, Csefalvayova egregiously violated the rules of cooperation at which the coalition partners arrived in writing, maintains SNS. Therefore, the party finds the activities of the committee chair incompatible with her further tenure of the post.
SNS added that it supports joint stances of the Slovak Government against the violators of the international system. “Official responses by state institutions to various events must always be coordinated and in concert under the terms of the coalition agreement,” said a party official.
The foreign affairs committee on Wednesday adopted a resolution in which it rejected attempts to legitimise the annexation of Crimea via visits by Slovak constitutional officials. The resolution came in response to a recent visit to Crimea made by Independent MP Peter Marcek. The motion was supported by almost all lawmakers present, with only one MP abstaining. SNS and Smer-SD members excused themselves from participating, however.
