SNS: OLaNO-NOVA Has Secret Materials from Government Office
Bratislava, August 9 (TASR) – The Slovak National Party (SNS) insists on the correctness of a statement made by SNS vice-chair Jaroslav Paska on Tuesday (August 8) in which he claimed that certain measures aimed at discrediting SNS are being prepared at the Government Office, TASR learnt on Wednesday.
Paska said that he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of SNS’s withdrawal from the Government in response to discrediting efforts against SNS masterminded by the Government Office with the involvement of Opposition party OLaNO-NOVA.
“It’s rather puzzling how it’s possible that OLaNO-NOVA has secret materials from the Government Office in its possession,” reads a statement provided to TASR by head of the SNS chairman’s office Zuzana Skopcova.
“There’s a possibility that Prime Minister Robert Fico’s media advisor and Smer-SD MP Erik Tomas could be behind these below-the-belt games,” added Skopcova.
“How is it possible that simple people like [OLaNO-NOVA MP] Veronika Remisova are discovering materials based on precise analytical texts on a table that she shouldn’t have at her disposal,” SNS quoted its leader Andrej Danko as saying.
Earlier in the day Most-Hid chairman Bela Bugar called on his party’s coalition partners Smer-SD and SNS to behave responsibly in the wake of Paska’s statements. “Mr. Paska’s statements were irresponsible, unfair and untrue. If anyone can imagine that Smer-SD has done a deal with [OLaNO-NOVA leader Igor] Matovic, then they must have sunstroke,” said Bugar, calling on “SNS officials in particular to be aware of their responsibility”.
According to SNS, Paska has the full political right to voice his opinions and feelings when questioned by the media.
Erik Tomas views the SNS claims as absurd. “Igor Matovic claims that we’re working to discredit his OLaNO party, while SNS claims that we’re collaborating with OLaNO in order to discredit SNS. These two contradictory claims partly show that the whole issue is nonsense,” said Tomas.
The Opposition OLaNO-NOVA party also responded to SNS’s statement. “OLaNO is happy that SNS considers the work of our MP Veronika Remisova concerning the wasting of €600 million for science and research to be highly exact analytical material,” reads the party’s statement in reference to the scandal involving the distribution of EU funds for science and research by the Education Ministry headed by SNS nominee Peter Plavcan.
