SOV Awards Figure Skater Plushenko for His Work in Developing Sport
Bratislava, August 26 (TASR) – Legendary Russian figure skater Evgeni Plushenko received an award for his contribution to sport from the Slovak Olympic Committee (SOV) in Bratislava on Saturday, TASR learnt on the same day.
“As an extraordinary personality he’s done a lot of work to develop sport, namely figure skating. Moreover, he has a very positive relationship towards Slovakia, and he’s a role model for our athletes,” said SOV vice-president Zdenko Kriz about the double Olympic gold medalist, three-times world champion and seven-times European champion in figure skating.
SOV also handed over a symbolic cheque indicating financial support for figure skating club SK Slovan Bratislava for its work with youth. The committee has financially supported young talented athlete Lukas Vaclavik in particular.
“I hope that this meeting and a handshake from Evgeni Plushenko will serve as motivation for Lukas to join the great personalities that have represented Slovakia in a positive way, such as [figure skaters] Ondrej Nepela, Jozef Sabovcik and others,” said Kriz.
Plushenko took advantage of the event in Bratislava to invite his Slovak fans to a 2017 ice show tour entitled ‘Kings on Ice’, which is set to mark the figure skater’s 35th birthday in early November. The ice show, which will combine theatre, humour and acrobatics on ice, will be staged in seven Slovak towns and cities – Bratislava, Prievidza (Trencin region), Brezno (Banska Bystrica region), Poprad (Presov region), Banska Bystrica, Zilina and Trencin – between November 19-26.
