TASR to Launch Special Projects to Mark Important Slovak Jubilees in 2018
Bratislava, December 28 (TASR) – The News Agency of the Slovak Republic (TASR) is launching various projects with regards to Slovakia’s important anniversaries in 2018, including the 100th anniversary of the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia, the 50th anniversary of the Czech-Slovak revival process known as the Prague Spring and the 25th anniversary of the creation of the modern statehood.
Among TASR’s major projects is the Great War Memorials. “We’ve launched a massive project, unparalleled in the history of the news agency. We’re taking pictures of all the Great War memorials in Slovakia. There are thousands of such monuments in Slovakia, in almost every village. Apart from taking pictures, we’re also creating a database, which doesn’t exist in such a form in Slovakia at the moment. We’ll be presenting selections from these collections to our customers in the photo-service on a daily basis as of January. The project will include an interactive website with the localisation of individual photographs, GPS coordinates of each memorial and a search for the names inscribed on the memorials,” said TASR general director Vladimir Puchala.
In 2018 Slovakia is marking the centenary of the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia as well as other anniversaries linked to the history of Czechoslovakia, such as the 1938 Munich Agreement, the 1948 February Coup and the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion.
“Each of these anniversaries, either positively or negatively, made a mark on our history as well as on the common history of the Czechs and Slovaks. TASR will provide detailed information about these anniversaries that form part of the Government’s concept to mark the historical events of the Czech Republic and Slovakia,” said Puchala, noting that in addition to the text documents, TASR will provide its customers with photographs from the archives.
“In the photography collections we’re preparing a selection of 25 years of the Slovak Republic and 100 years of the common state of the Czechs and Slovaks. The TASR themes will cover these anniversaries in detail,” added Puchala.
