Unique City Bikesharing Project Launched in Bratislava
Bratislava, September 9 (TASR) – Thanks to a bikesharing service, a.k.a Slovnaft BAjk, that was launched in Bratislava on Friday (September 7), the capital city has enriched its range of alternative transport and shared services, TASR learnt on Sunday.
Within the initial phase of the city bicycle sharing project a total of 550 bicycles at 73 pick-up points will be available for people in Bratislava, with the number to be increased to 750 bikes at 73 pick-up points within one year.
According to national cycling coordinator Peter Klucka, the new project is aimed at all road users and the people concerned, including the municipality, the police as well as motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. “Bikesharing is a huge opportunity, but at the same time I see it as a call to build safer cycle routes and at a faster pace,” said Klucka.
Gabriel Szabo of Slovnaft, which cofunded the project, also stressed the importance of safety as well as mutual respect and tolerance on the roads. “I’d like to invite all road users in Bratislava, be they motorists, cyclists or pedestrians, to respect others on the roads and treat others as they would want to be treated. Health is the most valuable thing,” said Szabo.
Slovnaft Bajk cost around €2 million, with the city of Bratislava investing half a million euros and Slovnaft the remaining €1.5 million.
