Cabinet: More Effective Dual Education Both for Schools and Employers

Bratislava, April 20 (TASR) – Employers, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, should find it more attractive to join the dual education system thanks to an amendment to the law on vocational education that was approved by the Cabinet at its session on Friday.

The main goal of the Education Ministry-sponsored amendment is to lift imaginary barriers hindering employers from joining the dual education programme.

Regarding the changes, the most striking one is a reduction in red tape when verifying employers’ ability to provide practical training in the particular field of study.

According to the ministry, one of the reasons why secondary vocational schools have shown lower interest in joining dual education was cuts in financial resources for schools introducing dual education classes. The new amendment has removed this obstacle for schools. In the past, when schools began a dual class, part of the financial payment was cut because the money wasn’t spent by the school, but by the employer.

“By removing this barrier, we expect secondary vocational schools to show a more active attitude towards cooperating with employers, as well as a boost to education processes and equipment of vocational schools already taking part in the dual education system,” reads the approved document.
