Election and Moratorium Extended Until 11 p.m.

Bratislava, February 29 (TASR) – Some polling stations in Slovakia will remain open until 11 p.m. during the general election on Saturday.

“In general, the parliamentary election will definitively end an hour later [than planned], i.e. at 11 p.m.,” said Interior Ministry election department director Eva Chmelova on Saturday.

The reason for the extension are the deaths of a member of an electoral commission in Velky Krtis (Banska Bystrica region) and a voter in Banska Bystrica. The polling stations in these two locations had to be closed for some time and, therefore, the election there will be extended. “The polling station in Velky Krtis was shut down due to the death for an hour, while the one in Banska Bystrica was closed for half an hour,” said Chmelova, adding that the election moratorium will end one hour later as well.

Slovaks are electing their new MPs on Saturday. This is the eighth general election to be held in the history of the independent Slovakia. The cost of election will be over €12.6 million. Twenty-four political parties are running.
