Fico: Coalition Agreed on Practically All Points of Parliamentary Agenda

Bratislava, June 17 (TASR) – The coalition has agreed on virtually all points of the parliamentary agenda, including social measures, Smer-SD Chairman Robert Fico said on Monday after the Coalition Council, noting that two or three bills should be submitted to the next parliamentary session, TASR learnt on the same day.

“We’ve been primarily discussing the agenda of Parliament at today’s Coalition Council,” said Fico. He expects the meeting to last up to three weeks. According to Fico, Parliamentary Chair and Slovak National Party (SNS) leader Andrej Danko will propose postponing two or three bills for the next meeting in September, in particular, the draft hunting act.

“The total spending on social welfare measures agreed by governing coalition officials is around €500-550 million,” he said. The planned social measures of the coalition include an increase in the Christmas allowance for pensioners, an increase in the parental allowance and the introduction of a one-time contribution of €100 for school supplies. They also include the reduction of corporate income tax or the introduction of lower value added tax on selected types of food. “This package is set in such a way to get significantly more votes than just the votes of the ruling coalition,” stated Fico.
