Gajdos: Slovakia Has Plenty to Offer Allies Regarding Bomb Disposal

Bratislava, September 19 (TASR) – Even 14 years since Slovakia became the leading country in the area of explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) within the whole of NATO, the country still has something to offer its allies and partners in this regard, stated Defence Minister Peter Gajdos (SNS) in his speech to open the two-day NATO EOD Demonstrations and Trials 2018 exhibition, which is taking place in Bratislava between September 19-20.

“Proof that we have an irreplaceable role in this area is our engagement in Ukraine, where we’re the leading country of the NATO Trust Fund for explosive ordnance disposal and dealing with improvised explosive devices,” said the minister. He further pinpointed the EOD Demonstrations and Trials exhibition, which is organised by the Trencin-based NATO Explosive Ordnance Disposal Centre of Excellence (NATO EOD COE) every two years.

Gajdos pointed out that more than 360 exhibitors from 22 countries are participating in the exhibition this year. “This record number also confirms the importance, relevance and added value of this activity,” he said, stressing the main theme of this year’s exhibition – a Multidisciplinary Approach to EOD.

The fifth NATO EOD Demonstrations and Trials exhibition is aimed at presenting the latest trends and technologies in the fields of explosive ordnance disposal and improvised explosive devise disposal to experts of NATO-member and -partner countries as well as to the academic community and representatives of industry.
