Government Declares State of Emergency
Bratislava, March 11 (TASR) – The Government on Wednesday evening declared a state of emergency in the whole territory of Slovakia, with the state coming into effect as of 6 a.m. on Thursday.
Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) explained that the state of emergency gives the Government tools to force various companies to supply the state with certain goods. “I want companies to be obliged to supply products if they have them,” said Pellegrini, adding that it primarily concerns medical goods.
“The aim of declaring a state of emergency is to create conditions for adopting essential measures necessary to prevent and mitigate the consequences of the extraordinary situation [caused by coronavirus and the COVID-19 disease] in Slovakia,” reads the adopted material.
