PG Ciznar Appoints Kovacikova as His First Deputy

Bratislava, May 10 (TASR) – Prosecutor-General (PG) Jaromir Ciznar appointed Viera Kovacikova as his first deputy on Friday, PG’s Office spokesperson Andrea Predajnova told TASR on the same day.

“Ciznar has done so after holding a personal interview with her and after taking the necessary administrative and personnel steps,” said Predajnova.

“Viera Kovacikova has been a prosecutor for many years … She’s been engaged in the field of prosecution for over 40 years, she’s a renowned prosecutor. Her proficiency, natural authority, moral qualities and managerial skills decided in favour,” stated Ciznar.

Kovacikova will replace Peter Sufliarsky, who submitted his resignation as of April 1 after reports in the media concerning his communications with controversial businessman Marian K., who has been charged with ordering the murder of journalist Jan Kuciak. Ciznar accepted his resignation.

On March 29, Ciznar pointed out that although Sufliarsky was in contact with Marian K., he didn’t discuss specific criminal cases with the entrepreneur or Kuciak’s murder. Ciznar voiced his appreciation for Sufliarsky’s work and thanked him for his efforts.
