Poll: Smer Would Have Won Election in February Ahead of SaS
Bratislava, February 23 (TASR) – Had a general election been held in February, the governing-coalition Smer-SD party would have won on 25.5 percent (with 43 seats in the 150-seat House), followed by the Opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) on 13.8 percent (with 23 seats), according to a poll carried out by Focus agency on a sample of 1,512 respondents between February 6-18.
In third would have been the far-right Kotleba-People’s Party Our Slovakia gaining 10.4 percent (18 seats in the House) ahead of the Slovak National Party garnering 10.1 percent of the votes (17 seats). The fifth would have been OLaNO-NOVA with 9.7 percent (16 seats).
Another three parties would have made it into Parliament – We Are Family-Boris Kollar (8.5 percent/14 seats), Most-Hid (6 percent/10 seats) and the Christian Democratic Movement/KDH (5.5 percent/9 seats).
The following parties would have failed to reach the 5-percent threshold required to win seats in Parliament: the Hungarian Community Party/SMK (4.3 percent), the Slovak Green Party/SZS (1.5 percent), Siet/Network (1.3 percent), the Slovak Communist Party/KSS (0.8 percent) and SMS (0.6 percent).
According to the poll, 68.2 percent of the respondents would have gone to the polling stations. Around 20.2 percent of the respondents wouldn’t have voted, while 11.6 percent wouldn’t have known whom to vote for.
