TASR Launches Interactive Map of WWI Memorials
Bratislava, November 12 (TASR) – The News Agency of the Slovak Republic (TASR) has launched an on-line application providing photographs of First World War memorials in Slovakia.
The app allows people to search for the monuments, locate them on a map as well as search for the fallen in the databases. “The application is a result of the TASR project within which we have been taking pictures of all memorials of the First World War in Slovakia. The news agency provides the latest news, but at the same time we also archive events and report on Slovakia’s history. We have a strong position in the regions and we want to bring a complete picture of the country, including the commemorative places,” said TASR General Director Vladimir Puchala.
According to the sources available, there are 3,000 WWI memorials situated at the cemeteries, in the centres of towns and villages or at other commemorative places in the country.
The map of memorials as well as the databases are available on-line at www.tasr.sk, www.teraz.sk, www.vtedy.sk and www.pamatniky-tasr.sk.
