Trams Given Green Light to Petrzalka after 55 Years

Bratislava, July 8 (TASR) – People in Bratislava don’t have to wait any longer for the return of tram traffic to the capital’s largest borough of Petrzalka after a 55-year hiatus, as senior state and city figures opened the route via the reconstructed Old Bridge on Friday evening.
“This is a big day for Bratislava and Petrzalka,” said Bratislava Mayor Ivo Nesrovnal before the first tram actually crossed the Danube River some moments later.
Nesrovnal added that this is only the beginning – with other traffic modernisation projects to follow, including those of tram routes to Karlova Ves, Ruzinov and Vajnory.
Transport, Construction and Regional Development Minister Roman Brecely during the ceremony promised to continue to promote public transport by constructing park & ride facilities and bolstering transport to and from Bratislava. “This approach must be comprehensive,” said Brecely.
